A small village Kinloch Rannoch surrounded by the dramatic mountains of the Scottish plateau is in a beautiful view on the east side of Loch Rannoch. The reconciliation of the small village of Kinloch Rannoch began in earnest when members of the British army retreated in the region in the mid 1800 's. Officials by the name of James Small were obliged to operate an early town collected from many local families living in various forms for many centuries in the area. Nearby Loch-Ranno army barracks assisted soldiers in their daily work. Early villagers are traders and farmers, and much of the economic support of the town is still coming from agricultural activities.
For those enjoying everything the outdoors offer, this area is an ideal place. Running across the Thamel river, kayaking, rafting and fishing are all popular activities. Hills, mountains and forests around Kinloch Rannoch are ideal for hiking, cycling, day trips and rock climbing. In the center of the town is a stone monument reminiscent of the poet and school principal Dugald Buchanan who lived there in the mid 1800's. A fairly unique landmark is known as the Sleeping Giant. It is a big hill that looks like a human upper body and head. Many people believe that this giant introduced to local folklore, waking up when its mentor flute was played.
The town adjacent to Kinloch Rannoch is Aberfeldi, about 20 miles northwest and Pitlochry at the same distance to the west. Although it is a small town, it supports two hotels, village shops, various churches, vacation resorts that attract a large number of tourists every year.
