On 15th December 1923, the area known as Spadina Heights left the York Township, itself became a village. The new community was named Forest Hill after the summer house of the local residents.

Today, the original village is an elegant urban neighborhood, but elements of the original community are left. Fire stations No. 135 in Eglinton Avenue West and Chaplin Crescent have a coat of arms of the village bailed out of the entrance. The neighbor police station is now an office, but the basement still has a prison.

Since the 1930s Toronto's growing Jewish community began moving north along the Bathurst Street from the Kensington Market Area. Many settled in Forest Hill. According to the Canadian census of 2001, 26% of neighborhoods are Jewish, and the area is located in schools of synagogues and Hebrew.

There are 3 main shopping areas in the neighborhood. At the intersection of Spadina Rd, shops, services and cafés are gathered. It is on Lonsdale Street that neighboring people prefer to call "village". There is a "big box" grocery store in St. Louis. Claire Avenue West and Bathurst Street. St. Louis' stretch has many interesting shops. Claire Avenue in the west side of Bathurst. In the north is Eglinton Avenue West, a vibrant shopping district running Avenue Road past Bathurst and west.

When you become a suburban village, Forest Hill now has a place in Midtown. Families are fascinated by the city surrounded by trees and a strong community feeling.
