Unangan lived in the wild and remote Aleutian Islands of Alaska wild for thousands of years, after a spectacular journey across the ancient overpass from Asia. They lived in the sea and succeeded. This was all changing today for these people known today as Aleut.

Whale hunter:
It was early in the morning and a wet cold wind from the Bering Sea was blowing. I will make a kayak with a pumpkin ready to start big chaos with other hunters. A whale was seen at the northern end of the island near a huge rock. Hunting whales was dangerous and even if Sherman gives us blessings, not everyone comes back. The whale is big and powerful, our boat is small. But we have hunted as a pack and have succeeded many times to land this huge animal. But I knew that I was safe because there was a sacred amulet around my neck to protect me from dangerous spirit.

When I entered the bay, when I saw a large ship with many sails coming straight for my village, I was about to put the kayak underwater. As we were awed with awe, words were not spoken. The big boat stopped in a place not far from the coast and let down the sail. We saw the white smoke moment from the boat rather than the big noisy boom and one of our dwellings blew away.

A small boat was dropped on the side full of people and our people were scattered in fear as they approached the beach. One of our hunters ran across the beach towards a small boat and tried to stop a man from going up the shore when one of them aimed at him with his long stick. The big blast and the hunter are dead. We had no weapons to protect ourselves. We knew we would refuse to die. Everything was chaotic so that boat people gathered all the people in our village and shared the men from women and children.

We took a small ship and took a big ship with the kayak, so we were shocked. Then, we learned that we need to hunt for otters for fur to protect our family from harm. It does not mean the destruction of our family. Every morning we departed with kayaks and we returned the aquatic plants we got on board every night. Everything was hopeless for us. We did not know what to do because no one could ask for help. My talisman conveyed throughout history kept me safe while hunting whales, but I could not overcome the spirit of a big ship. I never saw my family again, I knew my life was over.

When the Russian traders got off the otter and seals' fur rich land in 1750, it was the fate of the people of Aleutian Islands. People from all over the world were waiting for these furs and there was little difference as to how they were obtained. The desire of fur closed all eyes except solitary whale hunter.
