Our "Ultimate European road trip" goes north through the country of the Italian lake and stops between Garda and Maggiore on Lake Lugano.

Approximately two-thirds of this lake is in Switzerland and about a third is in Italy, resulting in unmatched cultures and fascinating unique places.

Enjoy the familiar and private environment surrounded by magnificent mountains and many beautiful and charming villas in the central lake between the two big lakes.

Why Lake Lugano?

When planning this trip with our new Porsche McAnn S, the routing was a round-trip from Germany: and back to Germany, returning to Italy, short jump rope in Austria, Switzerland. I added as many new destinations as possible, but I took a lot of breaks along the way and kept acceptable mileage.

The logistic Lugano fits well with the straight shoot from Sestri Levante and stopped by again for the return to Stuttgart and the Porsche factory in Germany. This was the first time for our lake, but it was a surprise.

Why the village Porlezza?

The City of Lugano is located in the Italian-speaking Ticino state facing Italy in southern Switzerland. Many hotel options range from simple to luxurious, but we were concerned about location and always important parking options.

We also focused on driving time and the ease of continuing our northern route to Germany. So we chose a hotel to stay 2 nights at the northern end of the lake near the village of Porlezza.

Porlezza is a commune of Como Province in Lombardy in Italy, with a population of only 4,400 people, with 43 hotels from simple to luxury. At the edge of the lake, far from the "big" city, at the edge of the tourist site, we judged the facility is more lenient and the price is more reasonable.

Upon arrival, we noticed that this property easily made a mistake as it was able to become a weekly destination ... 2 nights was not enough!

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, complimentary mineral water, free bottled water, free local calls, free local calls, free local calls and free local calls. There is a safe underground parking lot, the list changes frequently. Please check the website.

The staff of sincere, kind and comfortable people who welcomed me with working from this outstanding resort from the bottom of my heart was the best. Was this review helpful? Yes This review is the subjective opinion of a TripAdvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

Once again, our only regret is that we could only spend two nights.

Village Porlezza Market Day

I only have a day to explore this area, stayed near the hotel, rented a bicycle and arrived at the village on the road with a paved flat bike. I slowly traveled the best place, the scenery was wonderful and a little exercise goes far.

Only you see, there are lots of things to do ...

Switzerland's largest chocolate maker Alprose chocolate factory, adding cable cars, cable cars, lake cruises, panoramic views of the summit, mansions and museums, the history of Switzerland, history of Italy, small gaming casino activities for adrenaline rush.

Hiking enthusiasts can check out the village of Monte San Salvatore and Karona and go to Morocco and Montebrae. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Monte San Giorgio also has time and effort.

EU VAT Free Shopping

We did not find a fine point when we studied, the Italian water of the lake, especially the commune of "Campione d & # 39 Italia" is considered "non territorial" in Italian law, the tax status is tax free area, EU VAT Tax (all tax rate 19%) will be exempted. Fun shopping!

In summary

The visit to Lake Lugano was too short. It is useful for our road trip logistics ... Yes ... but vacation trip is more than logistics and lessons have been learned.

Before we get off the car, we head for Germany and Lake Constance for several nights.

Continue with "Ultimate European Road Trip Series".

After all, what is in a hurry ... I am inspired.
