There are four different areas on Crete. Heraklion, Lasithi, West Chania and East Chania.
Heraklion Located in the northern part of the island, it is the most popular tourist destination because it has long sand beaches, various accommodation facilities, restaurants and bars. Hersonissos (15 miles from Heraklion, there is only 18-hole golf course in Crete), Gouves (11 miles east of Heraklion), Kokino Hani (7 miles from Heraklion), Fodele (West of Heraklion) and Koutouloufari is on the slope of Pyrgias mountain.
Western Chania It is located in the east corner of the island, far more developed than Heraklion and it is peaceful. In this area there is a small fishing village in Gerani's small modern resort, uncrowded Maleme, small peaceful Tavronitis, Kolimbari famous for fish taverna.
East Chania Agios Nikolaos, a small resort of Amoudara (2 miles from Agios Nikolaos), a beautiful beach, a traditional Creole island of Carochorio, a calm town, a long seaside promenade of Lulaupetra and a stretch of beaches with two blue flags.
Lasithi , On the north coast of Crete, there are many beaches, a perfect ocean, resort, from vibrant to quiet place. The resort has a blue flag beach, with the largest resort in the local Platanias (6 miles west of Chania Town) and a beautiful scenic Carrieva village that retains the character of Crete.
Summer sunshine, clear water, beautiful beaches are ideal for water sports such as scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, parasailing, water skiing, jet skiing, banana boating and Pedalo. Apart from the beach, tourists can ride horses and explore the island. It is surrounded by desolate old villages, vineyards and olive trees. Crete has a peak in July and August, falling several times in May, June, September, and in April and October it still has a warm climate and is one of the best climates in Europe. The average temperature in summer is 29 ℃ to 30 ℃ during the day and around 24 ℃ at night. The rest of the year, especially the mountains and the northern part of the island is much cooler.
